Blockchain database for storing biometric data can be created in Russia. This was discussed during a closed meeting of the Central Bank representatives and banking sector, reports Izvestia.
Such database is needed for the remote identification of bank customers. Palmprints, face parameters or voice pitch may be used as a data. The customer will be able to open a bank account without visiting a credit organization – a video call with a bank employee will be enough.
Blockchain’s mission in this project is to protect information from theft and fraud. According to the Vice-Chairman of LockoBank, Andrei Lyushin, information in the blockchain cannot be deleted or changed surreptitiously.
Local banks are already using biometrics, however remote client serving is not the point yet. Biometric data is a lifelong identifier that replaces codes and passwords, said Sergey Rusanov, VTB24 representative.
